This week's question is: Have you broken up with a series? If so, which one and why?
I'm not proud at all, but I'm a quitter. And only when it comes to books and TV shows. You can win me over again, but if you piss me off like when Booth told Bones (in the Fox show, Bones) he loves her and she acted like a complete wuss and broke our hearts I quit that show so fast. I do the same thing with books. (Don't be sad if I bad-talked a beloved series of yours...please?)

I loved the first three books in the Drake Chronicles by Alexandra Harvey. Then the tone and direction completely changed. The first one remains in my reread stack because it's that fun.

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick was exciting and Patch had me smitten. I couldn't wait for the next one. Sadly, the characters lost their zeal and I started saying mean things to Nora.

Evermore by Allyson Noel hit the angsty forbidden love in a big way. Oh, I loved this book. I made it through the first three and the love was still forbidden and angsty! We had a painful triangle and a best friend I hated. I couldn't pick up the next book, but the first one remains a favorite.

House of Night lost me with Chosen, book 3. I was so upset about a particular scene with a faculty member that I packed them up and gave them back to my sister. I still want to hit the book a couple more times. Grrh, I did not like that storyline at all and it wasn't needed. And it wasn't handled well. Nope.

Evernight by Claudia Grey is awesome. I loved the surprises and the developing romance between opposing sides. I thought the storytelling was fantastic. Then the second took a few detours that veered the story offtrack for my liking.

Sookie! Oh goodness, I stopped at the hot pink book, 11 maybe? This one I might go back to despite the very mixed reviews on the final installment. So I thought I could pretend the series ended with the person I chose for our mind-reading barmaid, but delusions are tricky when you're trying to create them on purpose. I know the freaking truth!

  1. I like all of those series, but stopped reading them after the third or fourth book. I might try to read them in the future though.

    1. That's what is so amazing with stories. What appeals to some doesn't appeal to others. I hope if you return to them they hit the right spot! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great weekend!

    2. I have that relationship with PC Cast and the House of Night series. I haven't quit, I am just stuck.

  2. Happy Friday, Robyn. Among the series you mentioned, I think I've heard of Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick only. I haven't read so many series, so I can't think of anyone I've broken with.

    Have a great weekend! :)

    1. All the ones I quit are bestsellers, so they hit the spot for tons of people. And some of them might have just been a mood thing, but I like to move on quickly. hehe. You have a great weekend too, Kaykay!!

  3. LOL I love your list! I quit Hush, Hush as well! I didn't even really like the first one - because Nora just grated on my nerves (as did her mom!!) and I never really got into Patch.
I haven't read a HoN novel in a while, but I think I own all of them - so I will probably finish that series.
I actually read the last Sookie book! Even if I agree it went a little down hill after let's say 9 or 10 books, I still enjoyed Sookie, and I can now keep a certain someone to myself, without sharing him with her ;)
Here's my FF post for this week.
I hope you'll have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend Robyn! I'll 'see' you tomorrow ;)

    1. You totally get to have him all to yourself. Mmm. He's one of my favorite not so good guys. My sister stopped with HoN right before Betrayed I think. Something happened and she was devastated. I was not very sympathetic because no author had really broken my heart yet...now I know I was a jerk. Okay, enough wallowing. Oh, I forgot the theme for the Sidekick Saturday, but I still can't wait for it. Have a wonderful weekend too, Lexxie!!

    1. I'm reading that a lot that people plan to finish out the series that's stalled on their shelves. I feel like an even bigger quitter after this week's FF. Thanks for stopping by. I made sure I was following on bloglovin!

  5. Hi Robyn,
I'm the opposite. I can't leave a book or a series unfinished, but I have done it. But only once. :)
From the series you mentioned. I've heard so many good words about House of Night. I'm suprised you were dissapointed. I plan to read this series. Hmmm...you make me think...

    1. Only once, Athina? I can't imagine. I do develop a made up relationship with the authors of my favorite books, a sort of unspoken (crazy girl) agreement. You create the story this way, with this particular vibe and voice, and I'll follow that story anywhere you take it. Sometimes I'm willing to renegotiate, but not often.

Oh, don't go by me with House of Night. I can be moody with my reads and the one book hit a sore spot with me. There are parts that I actually really liked about the series and I thought the world building was great, the tats, the vamp hierarchy.

Happy writing! Here's to making it up as we go!!

    1. I was terrible and sneaked a peek at the rest of the series. Harris just released the last of the series, but there will be a "where is everyone now?" follow up. I'd like to see what Harris comes up with next in the realm of supernatural. Thanks for stopping by and for commenting! Have a great weekend, Katie!!

  8. I didn't like Hush Hush from the beginning so I'm glad I didn't carry that on.
I only read the first of Evermore as well, but boy have I heard some bad reviews on the latest ones.
With the house of night, you stopped right before I did, I was so close to the ending and it made me so uncomfortable that I put it down and threw out the entire series. I don't read books to feel uncomfortable!
I have not read Dead Ever After yet but I was quite enjoying it, try and carry on! :)

    1. Thanks for the Sookie pep talk (hehe). I think I will return to this one. I loved the ones I've read so far, then I had to cheat and check out the reviews. Bad Robyn. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great weekend, Tilly!

  9. I almost gave up on Sookie, the last few books I found a bit lacking. But I had stuck with all the others so I had to read the last one. I was actually enjoyed how it turned out. Thanks for visiting this week!

    1. Sookie sounds like one I will have to jump back into. Maybe even sooner than later. I hope Harris jumps back in the supernatural waters again. Have a great weekend, Traci!

  10. I feel the same way about the scene with the faculty member in the House of Night series. I did continue on til book 7, but I haven't purchased any since then. I haven't read the last 2 Sookie books either, but I do want to finish out the series eventually just to find out how it's all concluded. I agree with your list - it's a good one. Thank you so much for visiting my FF. Old follower :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. It's funny how one scene can break a series, or at least veer it offtrack. I'm with you on Sookie. I see myself finishing that one out. Next year. hehe. There are too many good reads coming out. Oh, and today I pick up Fall of Night (Morganville). I have to wait until next week, but yay!

  11. I've read a lot of people broke up with the House of Night series. I haven't read them yet, but my sister quit the series around book 7 or 8? I'm really intrigued to read the third book - I'm dying to know what wasn't handled well!

I've also seen Hush Hush around a lot. Not just today but over the last few months. I'd like to give it a try although it isn't at the top of my to-read list.

I still plan on reading the last two Sookie books (haha it rhymes!) and am hoping they don't make me hate the entire series! lol Thanks for stopping by my FF! :D

    1. I think I might have enticed people about Chosen more than turned them away. Really though, I did love the world created in House of Night. I thought it was very creative. And Hush Hush is a great series. It was my fist angel book. But then I went and wrote a series with angels in them and my angels and her angels would not get along...hehe. I know that's terrible. I'm actually more and more interested in starting back up with Sookie with all this blog chatter. Weird. Thanks for stopping by!

Oh, oh, gotta tell you. I watched the 2009 Star Trek today while I was cleaning...totally got emotional in the first freaking scene. "That Donnie Darko Girl!" was my teary response.
