This week's challenge is COMEDIC RELIEF!!!
I had Shane Collins from Rachel Caine's Morganville series all picked out, but then I went through my sidekick posts. Yikes! I have given this series a whole lot of love. There is a sidekick I just discovered...Jenks from Kim Harrison's The Hollows. I have a feeling he's going to be chosen over and over for whatever I can make work. He's a four inch hostile pixie. He's awesome. He's mean. He's the most loyal guy/creature/friend you could have. And boy does he have an attitude. I recently finished book 1, which means my quotes are limited. There was this scene with honey that was so funny. Jenks went nuts over it. Then he got drunk after flittering in and out, stealing pixie handfuls of the stuff. A drunk pissy pixie. Ha! He's also total eye-candy (mini-eye candy) and has a trough full of kids. Oh, if I were to cast an actor for this, I think it would be hilarious to see Ryan Gosling in flamboyant clothes with a fiery attitude. (I confess to casting Ryan often.)“You think my kids just popped out of the ground?”

Sadly, I did not get to go to lunch with my own sidekicks so we could chat about our picks. My youngest came down with the stomach flu. My sister did call and quickly tell me she chooses Cookie form First Grave on the Right. She said Cookie is even funnier in book 2. I guess Cookie is the opposite of cool under pressure. When the chips are down, expect Cookie to knock over a plant, reveal whatever big secret she's supposed to keep, and I'm not sure what else since I haven't read the series...yet. It's on the TBR list. My mom is still chewing on this one, or she forgot because the sun is finally out in Tacoma, Washington and she's in the garden. I'm sneaking computer time while the little one naps.
Small amendment: My mom chose Betsy from my Touched Girl series. Then my sister piped in with her suggestion from my books and I said back through the phone to my mom, "Too late!" See, Shan keeps adding to her picks. Then my mom started suggesting characters from future release books that I haven't published yet! So my sidekicks have lost their way a bit.
I didn't get around to posting this weekend :( back next weekend I hope. I love shane from Morganville but I havn't read the hollows yet.Jodie @ Aussie Bookworm
ReplyDeleteShane delivers the best lines! And he's so rough around the edges that his fumbles have me rooting for him. Any day now my copy of Fall of Night will be ready to be picked up at the library. I'm just waiting...
DeleteDid you just discover The Hollows? If you are in love with Jenks now, just wait... It gets better with each book. And the Tinks curses only get more creative.
ReplyDeleteI admit I am a newbie to The Hollows. Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven told me I'd love it. She was right. I hear the romances steam up in the later books too! My two favorite aspects though have to be the humor and the magic. I look foward to those curses! Thanks for stopping by! I couldn't resist and I commented on your Frost Burned review.
DeleteLOL! Shane is great, but I do think that Jenks is a better choice for this one just because I adore him so much. Judith is right...he just gets better and better. I once wrote down every Tink curse I read throughout the series and there are soooo many! Did you know he has a kid named Jaclyn? Pretty awesome :D Love your choices and sorry about the stomach bug. I've been running fever all day and am not really sure why, but didn't even feel like turning my computer on earlier. Hope you have a great rest of the weekend and he starts feeling better. Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
ReplyDeleteI can just see you taking notes on those curses. Your name does not get the literary credit it deserves. Sorry to hear you're not feeling so good. I call our apartment the Den of Sick because of the bugs going through this place! Grrh!! I hope your weekend shapes up too.
DeleteI was first thinking of someone from the Morganville Vampires series, too, Robyn, but I have talked about that series a lot, so I decided to go with someone else instead.
ReplyDeleteI haven't started the Hollows series, but it seems really good, and a 4 inch pissed of, mean pixie :D I can imagine how much fun a character like that might be!
Thanks for stopping by my sidekick post earlier, Robyn. Have a wonderful Sunday!

Us Morganville girls are a loyal group! I had the post written up and everything. I'll give Shane some love another day. hehe
DeleteHa! There's not a thing wrong with showing love for Morganville! But I have to agree with you on Jenks! When I was reading Jaclyn's post, Jenks was the first character that came to mind...and I was thinking she'd pick him! ;) So I'm glad Jenks is getting some love. And Robyn, he just gets better and better! I love that you say he hostile...he totally is. But loyal and lovable!
ReplyDeleteAnd Betsy is a great choice! Go Mom! I love Betsy's snark and she made me laugh quite a bit. I haven't read Charley Davidson yet...but I'm sure your sister's choice is great as well! :)
I never would have thought of creating Jenks. My mind has not once considered a world of feuding pixies and fairies. I'm so glad to hear that I'm in for even better stories. I think Betsy is my mom's go-to for anything snark/humor related. We'll see about getting her a novella or some such.
DeleteI haven't read The Hollows. There are so many books and I am a slow reader! Damn. It sounds really good. I'll take a look. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Athina, I am no speed reader either. We can bring up the back of the line. The cool thing about having so many books to read is having so many books to read. When my head spirals, I quiet the noise with a good story. Do check out Dead Witch Walking. That's book 1 and Harrison is so creative how she created her paranormal world.
