The summer drama of a newly minted teenager, a six year old who decided he has to be a drummer right now, and a mom who can't remember her kids' names.

I took Will and John to a library event called Tinkertopia. So cool. They bring bins of random stuff, junk in the minds of anyone who likes things tidy and minimal, candyland to anyone who lives in their imagination, and you build whatever you want. The program guide said six and up. Will took one look inside the room and fixed me with his death ray stare. So maybe a few parents brought their little tykes and maybe there wasn't a soul in there older than eight. "Mom, I'm thirteen!" I was speechless because my mind spat out "So what!" Not the most sensitive approach. He walked out. John created Bumblebee from Transformers and told me that it is also a drum set. Awesome. I scored as mom of the summer by getting wave pool passes for all of us. It's a place where you cannot not bump into random strangers wearing almost nothing. I try to encourage the boys to play with kids their own age but they still swarm me. I run and screech, but they catch me by way of tackling. The lifeguards think it's funny. Ha ha ha. In between, they bicker. They push and pull and yell at each other. I separate them and like some cosmic genetic twist, they gravitate back immediately to play the game all over again. I've taken to calling them "Whatever your name is there, quit it. Grrh." There are laughs and time outs and the little guy keeps telling me I'm adorable to throw me off. He also tells me I'm a fuzzy pink bunny, which I am not. It's been that kind of summer. How has it been for you all? Laughs, shouts, cries, maybe a couple sunburns?

  1. Oh LOL Robyn! Thirteen year old boys are SO moody!! I have one myself, and it's so strange to think that his sister was never as moody as he is... his older brother sure was, though ;)
Your wave pool experience sounds like fun... even if you got tackled and had to use the 'hey, you there... you know who I mean!... stahp it!' even if it rarely works. Having your little one telling you you're adorable is adorable, though :) Hang on to that one, Robyn!

At the very beginning of our summer vacation, all six of us went down to the Costa Brava in Spain, where we bought an apartment last year. It was so nice to have the whole family together here for almost two weeks, before all the guys left to go back to Geneva for hockey camps. Last weekend, my oldest daughter left as well, since she had tickets for a music festival.

Now, it's only my youngest and me, and we're both enjoying the one-on-one time we don't really get to enjoy during the year. We're both happy all the others are coming back in a little over a week, though ;)

I hope you and your little guys will continue to enjoy your summer! *hugs*

    1. Ha! Good stuff, Lexxie! Your family trip to Spain sounds so wonderful. And you can't beat alone time with one of the kids. It's hard fitting that alone time with each one. That is so great that you got that with your youngest. I can't believe we're halfway through the summer already! I know it seems like we're way past halfway. Seems that way. That's what I'm telling myself.

  2. This sounds fun,Robyn. I've said it again that being around kids is both exhausting and amazing. I don't get to be around kids a lot since my niece lives in another city, and she and her baby brother the only kids I know. Lo

As for summer vacations I don't know when I will go to my parent's house. I hope sometime in August. I cross my fingers.

Have fun with your boys, Robyn!!

    1. Did you get to go to your parents' house for vacation? I hope so! Sun and sea, You are spot on about the exhausting and amazing part. Kids kick my butt! I'm working on balance, but it's more like I'm thinking about the need for balance and that's as far as I go.

How are you doing? I saw that you finished Shadowfever. Are you still on the fence about reading Iced? I really liked it.

      Happy flying, Athina!

  3. Sounds like a great way to spend summer, Robyn. :) You so deserve that mom-of-the-year award for the wave pool passes. Since it's been such a hot summer, I know they've enjoyed cooling off - and maybe firing up in a completely different way. ;) Hey, you there, great job!!

    1. Those wave pool passes saved my summer! We've had so much fun and then today for the first day of Catch Up Camp with a bit of Adventure we went to the water slide pool (which uses the same passes too) and John said it was the best day of his life. Will climbed the steps up and slid down for two hours. Happy kids. I'm thinking of saving big time for passes to the waterpark for next summer. Oh my goodness!
