Before I lust after sidekick characters, I want to wish my friend Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven a very happy birthday. Months ago I emailed Jaclyn to see if she would be interested in reviewing my debut book, Soul Walker. It's almost like cold calling, emailing bloggers for reviews. I was so cyber shy, I tell you it was a huge challenge, but then I met Jaclyn. She's plain cool. And next thing I know we're working together for my first blog hop. I emailed her so many times with questions. I'm a lucky girl to know her, luckier to be able to call her a friend. Plus she has a really cool kid, loves Harry Potter like no one else, and told me I just had to read Kate Daniels. A lot of you are crazy about her too. You know why? Cause us book girls (and boys) are cool people. I keep saying.
SIDEKICK I WANT TO RUN AWAY WITH! I told my sister this week's topic was blogger's choice on account of our favorite blogger Jaclyn's birthday and Shannon came up with this one. Brilliant! My mind went straight to Adrian from Vampire Academy, even though the Adrian in Bloodlines is even more appealing to me. I can be a much better girlfriend than Rose. I won't be torn between two men at all. He would get all my attention. I'm not even a reckless bad boy type of girl, but he's Adrian!

“You've asked me out tons of times."
"Not really. I've made inappropriate suggestions and frequently pushed for nudity. But I've never asked you out on a real date.”
― Richelle Mead, Blood Promise
“Takes a lot of tries before you hit perfection." He paused to reconsider that. "Well, except for my parents. They got it on the first try." (Adrian)”

“What I think I'll do,' Alcide said, 'is I'll do my best to yank Debbie from my roots. And then I'll turn up at your doorstep, one day when you least expect it, and I'll hope by then you will have given up on your vampire." "And then we'll be happy ever after?" I smiled. He nodded.”
― Charlaine Harris, Club Dead
And finally, I posed the challenge to my mom. "Well, I'm not choosing anyone from your books, Robyn. I do not want to ride off into the sunset with a vampire." Okay, then. She thought long and hard about this one, first settling on Jake Brigance from A Time to Kill. Did any of you watch the movie version with freaking steamy Matthew Mcconaughey? I could only nod emphatically. But the woman kept on daydreaming and ended up with Jason Bourne. Personally I think she would have gone on and on. I told her she wouldn't have a long life span as Jason's girlfriend. She told me at least it would be exciting. Hmm.

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on my page. Just do the following:
• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fit's in the week's topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick

Yum! Adrian is nice - but if I was running away with someone from that universe, I think I'd have to choose Dimitri - and we'd have to run fast so Rose wouldn't be able to catch up with us ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat quotes, Robyn!
Have a wonderful weekend.

See that's why I didn't choose Dimitri. I am not a fast runner. Nope. Plus, Dimitri is so serious and honor bound. Who am I kidding, he's amazing. Richelle Mead creates the best characters. I keep thinking about Splintered now because of your quotes.
DeleteHave a great week, Lexxie!
You'd definitely be a better girlfriend to Adrian than Rose! LOL I love those quotes - they're just so...Adrian. But I do agree with you that he's even more appealing in Bloodlines.
ReplyDeleteI also happen to like Shannon's pick AND your Mom's (but can you ask her what exactly is wrong with riding off into the sunset with a vampire?) Although, I'd have gone with Jake over Jason. ;) A Time to Kill is a movie I actually have seen and I love me some Matthew! ;) Mm-mmm!!
I went with an avian! LOL
I hope you've had an outstanding week, Robyn. And that your weekend is equally so! *hugs*
Ha! Take that Rose. I'd choose Jake over Jason too. Wasn't that Matthew M.'s best movie? Have you seen Lincoln Lawyer? He was excellent in that one too. Your Junco pick was excellent! I haven't read that series yet, but I know both you and Jaclyn really enjoyed it. I did just write a guest review post for Tragic. I read that book in no time at all, Brandee. I really like Ronin...and Spencer (I'm only halfway through Manic). I hope the rain lets up soon. We're gettting thunderstorms and fog today. Weird combo, but I guess it's the stuff that makes writers write.
DeleteThank you so much, Robyn!!! I think it's so great what one little email can do LOL. I hope you had a great birthday the other day! I'm still trying to catch up on blog posts and emails.
ReplyDeleteAdrian is fantastic!! He definitely makes me swoon and if I could run away with him, I certainly would. I love how you interpreted this one :D It's a lot of fun. Matthew M. is super dreamy too so I see why that would be a choice pick as well as Bourne. You're right though, you wouldn't live long next to him! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
Oh man, I totally veered in a different direction with this week's sidekick challenge. I was so surprised my mom chose Jason Bourne and she had such a dreamy look on her face. Little danger magnet.
DeleteI missed the Spitfire challenge, but Shan and I both chose Jenks. I love that you guys all chose the same character. What's up with September being so crazy?
You're starting a hop? That's amazing. I'm wondering what it would be. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I haven't read bloodlines yet, but Adrian on VA was amazing. Nice choice.
I like the quote about perfection. hehe.
I think you'll really enjoy Bloodlines. Adrian just gets better and better. The hop was back in February for Soul Walker and then we did a blog tour when Soul Bender came out, but there will be more for sure since I'm doing new covers for my first two books and then I'm publishing the first Maggie novel in November. Now that I type the timeline like that I'm freaking a bit.
DeleteHow are you with self-imposed deadlines?
