Think Out Loud [25] I'm Going to Emerald City Writers' Conference Baby!

In a month I will be attending my first writer's event. My first writer anything. And I'm nervous already. I have no idea what workshops I'll be attending, but I have this image in my head, a sort of movie reel of what it will be like. Since we're not meeting in the middle of the woods for some dope infested hippie style camping weekend, I'm sure I will be completely shocked the whole time! Here's the best/scariest part. I get five minutes to pitch my book! Hell yes, and can I have a paper bag right now before I hyperventilate? Which book do I choose? Soul Walker, my debut book that's getting a new cover (compliments of our talented Jaclyn over at JC's Book Haven) or should I pitch Shadow Town due out this November? First I have to learn how to give a pitch. My query letters sucked balls. I'm not being modest. Stage fright is not an issue, but I get jittery and my cheeks turn redder and redder as the seconds tick by. My hands jump into action from the start. I might even clap. Shit!

Think Out Loud is a meme sans any blogger rules. Post WHATEVER you want. Try it out. We're here, when you do.

  1. Wow, RObyn. That is fantastic! I haven't attended a writer's event either. Sounds so good.

I think you must pitch the one you like a little more. :)

Start working on your pitch and everything will be fine.:)

Sorry I haven't answer you in the prevuous post but my internet connection sucks. I'm hardly online these days. I write more and I edit more. I hope when I finish with CC Dazed will be ready to share.

I plan to read your books, but I will wait for the new cover. :)

    1. You are so spot on with the advice to start working on the pitch and everything will be fine. Yes. Action will redirect the attention on not knowing what I'm doing to figuring out what I'm doing.

That's so frustrating about your wonky internet connection. I do not handle that kind of stuff gracefully. I am looking forward to Dazed!

  2. That's really exciting, Robyn! I'm sure it will be great, and if you clap, maybe the audience will clap right along with you?

I'll be thinking of you :)

    1. Thanks, Lexxie! I'm sure there will be clapping, but I think I can contain my little dance. The boys have been working on me to stop doing that. I wish you a fabulous weekend!

  3. LOL I so wish I could be there to hold your hand, Robyn. But YOU, dear, will be just fine! ;) And you'll knock their socks off no matter which book you pitch.

And I hope you get some good stuff from the classes, too. Although, I think you're pretty great already! ;)

    1. Thank you for the good words, Brandee! I haven't been a student in a long time, but I'm hungry to learn again. There will be a book fair too and I've never been to a book fair. I don't even know what to expect, but I plan to go home with a bunch of bookmarks! I have a bookmark routine. For every book I decide to crack open and read, I choose just the right bookmark for it. So cheesy.

Great Think Out post, crafty girl. You've posted your awesome library. Do you have an equally awesome craft space? Oh, and your kids are so musical!

    1. Yeah! That was my first reaction to your pep talk. I can do it. Plus, I love my books, not in an egotistical I'm so awesome way. I just love reading them. Great place to start. Have a great weekend, Think!

  5. Oh congrats!!! I didn't even notice you had a book out and one coming soon too! I shall check them out~ But wow, your very first writers event! Super happy for you. Pitching a book is tough, form what I heard but if you do it right and too that perfect publicist....great results will come your way! No pressure just relax and have fun!

    1. You made me laugh with the no pressure line. Sure no problem. Thank you for the link. I'm absolutely going to check out her FB page. I think the pitch process will help me be more of a seller than an observer. If moms could pitch their daughters' books, oh boy. My mom chases people down who look like they might enjoy YA paranormal romance. Literally chases. "Do you like vampires?! My daughter..."

    1. My hippie mother would suddenly become a novelist! I remember reading the college course book over and over because the classes looked so cool. That's what these workshops are like.

I can't wait to do a big cover reveal because they are so pretty!
