Football movies that are AWESOME!

It's football mania here in Washington. My mom, sister, and five year old son are hardcore Seahawks fans. I'm a hardcore sports movie fan. Not the same thing at all. But there are moments in the games that are so huge or so agonizing, I grin ear to ear at the story quality of it all. When the ball sails past outstretched fingertips, I imagine the guy ten years from now replaying that one snapshot of his life. When Richard Sherman leaped into the air and changed impending heartache into insane joy, I wanted to shout, "That's a movie moment!" But that's lame. I know. I'm a movie geek, not a football girl. So here are a few of my very favorite football movies. Oh, and the smack talking Sherman lives off of is totally movie magic too. Love it!

How about you? Are you a football fan? If so, good luck enduring the next two weeks until the Superbowl. Maybe check out one of these movies to hold you over until then.

  1. I am not a football fan. Honestly I find those movies a little boring.:)
But it was one comedy I enjoyed. Can't remember the title though.

    Thanks for sharing, Robyn.:)

    1. I never was a football fan either, but my mom and sister love it so much it's hard not being sucked in by their enthusiasm. But it's too stressful for me. But the movies, oh man, I love them! If you remember the comedy, you have to stop by and tell me. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I'm having one of those weeks. I hope all is well with you!

  2. LOL I think it's hysterical that you love watching football movies over an actual game, Robyn. :) But you're right about the 'movie moments' that happen in the actual games. I watched the Seattle game from one eye as I was reading. *haha* It was definitely a movie moment ending!

I used to be much more of a football fan than I am now...I think James really did burn me out. But it's okay, I can sit and read while he watches...and look up occasionally when he wants me to see a replay. :) I DO love football movies though. I loved Rudy and I loved The Blind Side! Have you seen Friday Night Lights??? Soooo Texas!! Oh, and what's that one called with George Clooney - about the beginnings of football? Taht was a good one. And I've always wanted to see Any Given Sunday. :)

You know, I'll be torn over who to root for in the Super Bowl...but I'm thinking I'm going to be rooting against (from one eye) your fam's team! *hugs* girlie!

    1. Those instant replays sure save a reader/blogger girl's life, don't they? Rudy and The Blind Side are the best! I missed out on Friday Night Lights, but it would have been so cool seeing Texas football.

I liked the George Clooney one. I still have random flashes of scenes from it. You'll have to tell me what you thought of Any Given Sunday.

We should do what the politicians do when they're on the losing side. If my team loses I gift you a Kindle ebook that takes place in the Pacific Northwest. If you win, you gift me a Kindle ebook that takes place in Colorado...that sounds much harder. Well, that's not what the politicians do, but if they were bloggers they might.

    2. When I see Any Given Sunday, I'll let you know. :)

And yes, let's! It might be more difficult to find a book set in Colorado than one set in the Pacific NW, but I'll be a politician and say "I can make it happen" ;)

    3. Ooh, posing as a politician, I should also say something else ridiculous like "I guarantee a win for Denver" :)

    4. Oh, you made me laugh. I agree that you have the bigger challenge. I thought we could include the Southwest in general. But us Pacific Northwesterners sure do love to write about rainy Washington.

I should say something ridiculous too...Ack! I got nothing.

  3. I've not seen any of these films :(. Being English, it's funny to read football when our football is your soccer! I've never been to one of our football games, but I'm going to America this year and hoping to see one of yours, lol!

    1. Ha! Well, I have favorite soccer movies too, Tilly! I love Goal! The Dream Begins and Bend it like Beckham. I've never been to a football game. I imagine it would rattle my brain. I hope you enjoy your trip to the states. What are you most excited to see?

  4. I've seen Rudy way back in high school. I've been wanting to see Blind Side & Remember the Titans. I agree with Brandee - it is hysterical, lol! Naw, you aren't a geek. I think those are tote movie moments. You're a movie lover through and through! Did you end up seeing the Sherman interview with Erin Andrews? When they won, that was such a huge moment!! I even felt joy, and you know I'm a die hard Bengals fan, lmao! I don't know who to root for - I do love Peyton Manning, but I love you more, lol! :D

    1. Aww, that is so sweet. Colorado is my dad's team, Washington my mom and sister's team. So you can rationalize either way!

Remember the Titans had me bawling my eyes out. Blind Side had me cheering out loud. I am a movie lover. I love sports movies the way you love horror. I'm telling you, there are few sports I haven't seen dramatized.

I caught that interview! It was hilarious. Sherman is a cool dude. First off, I love the trash talking because that's what you think they're doing on the field. That's what I'd be doing, granted I'd be kicked off the field for getting my ass thoroughly kicked.

  5. So, you mention that your family members are Seahawk fans, but does that mean that you're not??? If not, I guess you don't really have a choice right now! I used to love football (college football, mostly), but I don't really care much about it anymore. Nevertheless, I suppose I'll throw my meager bit of caring about the Super Bowl behind the Seahwaks, solely because several players, including Russell Wilson, played for NC State, my alma mater.

Now, about the movies, I think my favorite would have to be Jerry Maguire. (Confession - I had to google "films about football" because I was originally drawing a blank while trying to think of my favorite!)

Enjoy the Super Bowl, and I hope you have some family members come Sunday night. :)

    1. Oh, I'm a Seahawks fan, but my family is nuts about them. They know stats, names, numbers, specific football moments. I still wince when the guy with the ball runs right into the hungry pack of grrrh players. So, you see, it's hard to call myself a fan when I talk like that.

I love that you had to look up football movies! And better yet, you named one of my favorites. I totally forgot about Jerry Maguire.

I think it will be terribly stressful this weekend. I just hope they let me have my laptop during the game.

  6. If you’re going to be watching one of the football movies on netflix it’s best to watch it with some football fans. I can assure you that their enthusiasm especially for the football scenes will be infectious.
