Sidekick Showcase [42] New Year's Resolutoin

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on my page. Just do the following:
• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fit's in the week's topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• The day of your post, put your link in below and grab the code for your post so you can see the others that post theirs throughout the week as well

For the rest of January we're choosing side characters who could use a New Year's Resolution or two! My first thought went to Adrian from Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy and Bloodlines world. There's the drinking and partying and flippant attitude. But I love him that way and I love his journey to better and worse times. So my real pick is someone I cannot stand. He had potential for a minute, but then I wanted him to be my best friend's boyfriend just so I could kick his ass. Nick from Kim Harrison's The Hollows (books 1&2 because I'm behind on the series, but I hear he just gets less likeable) needs some serious resolutions starting with staying away from demons and artifacts and ancient books and magic and curiosity and his own spineless personality. Basically he needs a personality overhaul, but a few resolutions might make him more tolerable and less ass kickable. Okay, so when I picture Nick I see him as a younger Sean Penn. I have no idea how Harrison actually describes him, but to me he's not straight up lickable, but he's still pretty appealing.
Sean Penn Cannes
“The demon's eyes flicked to mine, his smile widening. "This is Nicholas Gregory Sparagmos's room," he said, and my breath caught. "Delightful, just delightful! What are you doing in Nicky's room, Rachel? Ooooh, he summoned you to the West Coast, didn't he? Did you kill him? Good for you for taking care of that little problem! I should give you a bunny. Where is he? Stuffed in a closet?" ~ Algaliarept, Black Magic Sanction, Kim Harrison”

  1. YES!! Nick would be much more appealing if he resolved to change a thing or two about himself! I love 'less ass kickable'! *hahaha* He does get less and less likable, for sure. Great choice, Robyn. And I'm definitely down with Nick looking like a young Sean Penn.

Hope you're doing something fun this weekend, girl! *hugs*

    1. When Nick first came onto the scene I thought he was so cool. Then he proved idiotic in the very next scene and most of the scenes after that! He drives me nuts. I growl if Rachel even thinks about him. If I was Ivy, I'd just freaking bite him. Now I want to get back into this series even though I am so behind on my current reads.

This is a big work weekend, but it's fun work.

      hugs right back!!

  2. Ha Ha Ha!! I mean the way the reader meets him says it all. He seemed pretty normal and likeable at first until Rachel found out some of his bad habits. He definitely needs to set some resolutions and being less ass-kickable is one of them. What a wonderful pick! Definitely a love to hate here. I hope your weekend is spectacular :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. He did seem pretty normal (after he was human again...), but then he was so stupid right off the bat and Rachel would not listen to me telling her to turn a deaf ear when it came to him. Yes, love to hate for sure, but next week I'm playing by the rules.

It's a soggy, gloomy weekend here, but I have a couple great movies, a fabulous book, and time off from the boys for the first time in ... a couple weeks. I hope you get some down time, missy.

  3. I don't know this series, but I agree with you on VA. Adrian is perfect the way he is. I wouldn't change him either.

If I had to pick a character, I guess I would choose Jaime Lannister from A song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones). Even if I came to like him a little, he need to try harder.

Thanks for sharing, Robyn. I hope you had a great weekend,

    1. Yes, another Adrian fan. Gotta love those flawed boys.

Oh, Game of Thrones, I haven't read it or watched the series. Do you like the series? I saw a funny blog post that listed all the characters that have died...went on for a while.

    2. I love the series. I'm a huge fan.
I've read the four books and I plan to start the fifth soon.
Honestly, I didn't expect to love so much this series. The books are so long that I though I would be bored, but I was so wrong.
I like the show too, but the books has all the magic. :)

  4. LOL, Rachel never, ever listens to me either, Robyn! But that's OK, I love her anyway. And I think Nick is a great choice, I loved him in the very beginning too, but now, I just love Ivy's and Jenks' nickname for him :D

Adrian is a great choice, too - you should feature him next week ;)

Have a great evening, and a fantastic week.

    1. Ah, you teased me on purpose with that nickname business! I'm glad that Rachel and I weren't the only ones charmed by Nick. What a tool! I love your pick. Alice is such a great character, always flittering around with her foresight and sneaky plans.
