When life's kicking your butt, how about a theme song? [2]

I'm making a few changes in my life this year. It only makes sense I have a theme song. Think Ally McBeal and her dancing baby song (hooked on a feeling). The right song can really hit the spot. So I'm throwing out this challenge, monthly. Pick a theme song and then when you need a boost, or need a specific motivator, maybe a certain song inspires you to tackle your most dreaded chore like balancing your checkbook, choose that one. Maybe you're down and there's a song that always makes you smile, there you go.
For February, the month of hearts and jewelry commercials, I'm going with "Just Do It" (get your minds out of the gutter people). I want a song that gets my body moving so my mind can take a break for a bit. I choose Drive By by Train. After my divorce I found this song and danced my way into healing smiles. My sister pick is Best I Ever Had by Gavin Degraw. Five-year-old John chose I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift. My mom had the hardest time picking only one song, the woman gave me a playlist. I gave her a limit and she went with Your Sex is on Fire by Kings of Leon. Perfect for February, gotta say. And lastly, Will chooses I'm Having a Bad Bad Day by Pharrell Williams from the Despicable Me soundtrack. He loves it because Gru makes a kid cry and then freeze rays a bunch of coffee customers. The kid races around the room and can't stop having the best time!

You can find January's playlist HERE. I loved the songs everyone mentioned in last month's theme song post. I actually listened to those more than my pick. So suggest more or do a theme song post of your own. Either way, I'll add them to the month's playlist. In other news, I just published my third novel. Shadow Town is the first installment in the Maggie Lane Chronicles. There's romance, humor, monsters both human and otherwise, snark, and a few hot guys. I promised my dad I would write a regular book one day. I forgot to tell him this isn't it. I gotta get on that. I hope you all have a wonderful month. Just Do It! (take that however you like)

You can find February's working playlist on youtube HERE.

  1. I happen to like looking at Train's singer. ;) I have never heard this song. I know you're shocked! *haha* But I like it. And I love wherever this video was shot - California? It's gorgeous.

Okay, my post will go up this weekend. I gave the kids the theme at breakfast. Sky already knows her pick!

Happy Friday, girl! I hope you have a lovely weekend...and maybe run into a fireman?!? ;) Go Broncos! *haha*

    1. I swear I replied to your comment, but I guess since my little nose picking preschooler was home sick today, I just imagined it. So no drama for Sky this month. I'm so curious what everyone chooses. That video is grogeous, huh? Especially with the weather being so dark and gray!

I hope you have a lovely weekend too! You sneak, I just noticed the cheer at the end of your comment. Hmm. I do not condone that. Nope.

  2. AHHH! I love Train. Soul Sister is probably my favorite, but I love Drive By too. Gavin Degraw and Taylor Swift are always good picks too. I still need to think of something for this one. I've listened to songs all day long and still haven't decided on anything LOL Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. I love Soul Sister! I think I chose Drive By over it because right after I moved into the tiny apartment after the divorce I heard this song with John and we both started dancing at the same time. It made us so happy when happy was not commonplace. I can't wait to hear your pick! I think next month I'm going with musicals for the theme song. Does Zane sing?

    2. Soul Sister is something my sister and I say to each other when we call each other up now. When I went to visit her one time, neither of us could stop singing it and one of her friends said, "Oh no! There's two of them." LOL I love how songs can become so special to us. Zane definitely sings. He's in choir at church and we sing all day every day in between. What would musical be?? Like a movie with music?? I used to sing Do, Ra, Me all the time.

    3. I love that story about you and your sister and I love that you and Zane are such singers! How cute. I laughed at the Do, Ra, Me part.

Movies with a lot of music or straight up musical plays I think. Could be Sound of Music or a Disney movie or something from Glee even. Yeah, that's what March's theme song will be. I just have to come up with a title.

  3. Kings of Leon were at Austin City Limits! They were playing at the same time as the Cure, lol. Haha, Train's singer is pretty darn cute - I agree with Brandee. Janie loves Taylor Swift. She's such a sweet girl with the voice of an angel. Love this idea you came up with! :D

    1. So I'm guessing you saw the Cure instead of Kings of Leon? I forgot John was in the car with me one time when Your Sex is on Fire was playing and then I heard him singing that line from the back. I totally freaked! That's cute that our kids love Taylor Swift. Will loves her songs, but if you ask him he just says "never mind." John talks about how beautiful she is. I agree with you and Brandee.

    2. Yeah, I saw The Cure, lol. Not the whole concert unfortunately - my friend's niece ended up not feeling well with all the people crushing us poor girl! I don't think there will be a whole lot of chances in the future to see them, so I had to take it while I could get it. ;)

    3. It's hard to choose what to see when they book big shows like that at the same time! Man, I haven't been to a show in forever.

  4. Nice selection, Robyn :) I think I'm going to join this challenge. My daughter always tells me I have a song for everything. I sometimes answer her with a few choice lines of a song, because she's totally right - there is a song for everything.

    Have a fantastic week, Robyn.

    1. We would absolutely love to have you join the theme song hop. I listened to your Jason Mraz song a lot last month! It made me smile every time! I'm still thinking about your review of The Blue Blazes. It made me think of the comic style movie Sin City with Jessica Alba.

I hope you're having a fantastic week, Lexxie!
