Think Out Loud [42] Lose a game of tag and the world goes to hell

The Walking Dead 2010 logo

I'm going to be talking about The Walking Dead today, but I don't want you to think I'm some cool zombie fan. I'm not cool at all. I'm way too wussy for this shit, but I am hooked. Over the last couple weeks as I've raced around to the various public libraries to get my hands on the DVDs, I've noticed a few changes. First off, anytime someone startles me, I just about hack their head off. I don't shout because zombies are attracted to noise and because I'm a hit or freeze first kind of girl, not a screamer. That sounds like I'd be good in a zombie apocalypse, right? Wrong. The other change I've noticed is this, deciding how quickly I'd get eaten. Pretty damn quick. I came to this realization playing tag with my boys. I am the slowest runner. Seriously, there was this guy at the track some time ago who told me I'd move faster if I just walked. I did not tell him I'd like him better if he just kept his mouth shut. So, tag with the boys. Will is fast and determined and when I know he's on my heels I freak out. John must sense I'm freaking because he decides to jump in front of me (an easy feat because like I said, not a fast runner) and then he hugs me, effectively stopping us right in the path to be tagged or eaten if a dead chomping gross thing is on our tails. The last change is rationalizing the deaths of main characters. No one is safe. My brain doesn't know what to do other than create a shrug fail-safe. So when someone I like dies, I feel my shoulders move up and down at the same time I decide that's okay, everyone dies in an apocalypse.

Here's a little gift for Donnie Darko Girl. She has the biggest crush on Daryl Dixon who I have to admit is totally crush worthy.

Think Out Loud is a one of a kind meme. You post whatever the heck you want and we pay attention. How cool is that?

  1. Well, I am some cool zombie fan. Sometimes I eat while watching the show and my boyfriend just stares at me. What can I say, it doesn't bother me.

It's funny how you think of these stuff. I have never think of it that way. The only thought that crossed my mind once is that I'll have an idea of what to grab before I make a run during apocalypse. I'll be prepared! :)

And yeah!Daryl Dixon is totally crush worthy.

    Great TOL, Robyn.

    1. I love that your boyfriend just stares at you while you eat a meal during zombie chomp-fest. I can have coffee while I watch the show, but that's it. Man the human body is very elastic. That's the number one takeaway when you watch zombie stuff.

I have no idea what my reaction will be, I hope not stoicism like I handle natural disasters. What is your favorite zombie or apocalyptic movie?

    2. I really don't have a favorite, but The Walking Dead are awesome!

    3. You are right. It is an awesome show. My library has the first 3 seasons. I'm just about finished with season 2.

  2. Robyn!! I missed you so much!
LOL I haven't managed to watch that show yet and I have heard it's like super amazing! Plus I hate watching zombie apocalypses and the end of the world stuff. They get me boiling like a hot pot because people can be so stupid in those one moments where...where...crazy stuff shouldn't be happening! I don't know, I'm just not into those paranormal stuff, well certain ones but a dsytopia world I might be fine.

    1. OMG, Ki! I would annoy you the most then! I can just see me grabbing my boys, books, and hat when I should be ... what? Packing water and food? See, I'd get bit.

    2. I'm dying of laughter right now, pun intended, because you describe things so funny it's too good to be true! I'm a super slow runner, so I try not to think about a zombie apocalypse coming. It would SUCK to have kids with zombies running around.

*wipes drool* He's so dreamy! I really need to watch the Boondock Saints soon.

Did you know Andrew Lincoln (Rick) had a small part in Love Actually? I need to see that, too.

Thanks for the shoutout! He's a fox! x

    3. He has that quiet hero thing going for him, that's for sure! I just finished season 2 and he rescued Carol on his hog. Come on!

We slow running moms are going to have to come up with an action plan. Maybe we don't have to get bit.

  3. I'm not a big zombie fan myself... I probably could outrun the more discombobulated ones, but I have kids, too... and no way would I leave them behind to have their brains eaten.
    The guy looks hot, though...

    1. I haven't read any zombie books, too scary, but I've seen tons of movies. I think the tide is changing on that.

He's an amazing character, very rough around the edges, reluctant hero type deal. Happy Valentine's Day right back!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  4. I love The Walking Dead! I'm not the fastest runner either. I guess we'll both fall behind and become zombie food. Oh well! Maybe adrenaline will gives a boost. I love Daryl! I bought an "If Daryl Dies, We Riot" t-shirt and wear it every Sunday.

    1. Oh my gosh! I love that shirt. You're like the football fans here in Washington state but with The Walking Dead. I love that. I've been asking for a Mercy Thompson hat forever, now I have to add this.

I just read your VA movie review. I loved it too. I agree about the beginning. It was kind of weird or campy or something, but as soon as they were on the run, I was fully into it! I really hope there's a #2. Happy Sunday, Sarah!

  5. Holy cow - too funny! I cannot see you watching this at all so I'm wondering if Jennifer talked you into it :D I am so thrilled you are enjoying it. I've always said if there is a zombie apocalypse, they better move slowly because I can walk for days but I am terrible at running. Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. LoL! If there is a chance for any of us, the zombies have to be slow for sure. I do believe Jennifer and all her Daryl Dixon posts swayed me, but I didn't think I would get hooked. My plan was to try it out, now I'm stalking the libraries in Tacoma.

  6. OMG - you crack me up girl!! I guess I'll have to hope I'm with you should a zombie apocalypse ever occur...it'll ensure my survival for at least a bit longer. :) I have heard many, many great things about The Walking Dead but I, as you know, don't watch tv. So I haven't seen it. And I'm not the biggest zombie fan either. But I'm thrilled you are enjoying it AND coming to terms with your odds of survival... <3

    1. Your pragmatism cracked me up...and come with me if you want to live. I know you're not a TV girl or a zombie girl. I'm so addicted to this dang series. My mom and sister won't even let me talk about the show. I say one little comment and I'm exiled from the living room!
