Think Out Loud [49] I'm a library girl!

How much do you all use your public library? It's no secret that I'm a library girl. I buy one or two physical books a year. I'm getting better at treating myself more, or at least that's my goal. It's April and I've already pre-ordered 2 books! Anyways, I saw the title history icon on my library account and clicked on it. Holy cow! In the last year and a half, I've checked out 960 books, DVDs, and CDs. My boys' children's books account for the majority of the titles. Sometimes we check out all the books by an author we really like. One time, I mentioned to the librarian that John loves the Five Little Monkeys books. She wouldn't stop pulling books. We went home with 8 monkey books. I love my library like a friend, a friend who never gives me shit for all the stuff I want to check out and sometimes not read at all.

  1. Wow! 960 books, DVDs and CDs? Indeed Holy Cow! hehe.
I am not a library girl. I used to be for a couple of years when I was younger, but then I realized i want to have the books so I started buying.
But it's great that you are a library girl. I think I should follow that path too. :)

    Have a beautiful weekend, Robyn.

    1. I went through a spell buying books too. It's a wonderful thing having a wall of books that you've read or can't wait to read. They're like childhood blankets, so comforting and full of memories. I plan to buy more books in the future. We can switch roles somewhere down the line.

I hope you're having a great weekend, Athina! Editing? Writing? A little bit of both? Do you have spells when the story ideas won't quit? What do you do?

    2. Yes, a wall full of books. Every reader's dream, right? I'm having a peaceful weekend for a change and I had time to write a TOL too.:) Maybe I do some writing today. I've really missed it.

      How is your weekend?

  2. I love my library - and I do mean my county library. (of course, I love the one in my house, too) I thought about being a librarian so I could share books with folks like your librarian does. I ended up working as children's lead at B&N instead. (didn't require an MLS) My kids and I spend hours in the library - especially in the summer. And I always check out waaaay more books than I can read in 3 weeks. Shocking, I know! ;) I'm glad your library doesn't give you shit - mine doesn't either. Luckily I have you and you have me to do that! *haha*

    1. Ha! You crack me up. I'm always here to give you a hard time! Just think how it is for my sister...who used my computer one time to check her library account...so I have her number on auto fill. hehe. Yes, I've added books and movies to her account because I'm such a shit.

You would be an amazing librarian. There are a few that are just so cool and a few that could use a life change. There's this guy at the main library who does the best job reading kid stories. I remember one that was so funny I laughed until I cried. I bet you'd be cool like him.

  3. We use our library all the time. I take Jack to the library every Tuesday morning for story time. The lady who runs his class, Pam, adores him! She has the best reading out loud voice! She reads stories, teaches the kids songs and finger plays, and then at the end, the kids do a craft. When Janie was a little girl and I was working, Brady's grandma took her to story time at the library. She's a fifth grader reading at a high school level!!

Once a month, our library shows a movie. They just showed Frozen a week ago, but I totally forgot about it. They showed The Hunger Games, and we went to see that back in November around the time when Catching Fire came out in the theater.

There's a summer reading club we join that has different age groups - infants/toddlers, pre-school, preteen, teen, and adult. Jack and Janie have won some cool prizes.

They have a school's out party we go to every year, a Halloween party we go to, a back-to-school party, and I think a Christmas one, too.

Our library is pretty damn awesome! ;) Sounds like your library kicks ass, too! x

    1. Man, your library rocks!! I keep forgetting the free movie days. I even write it on the calender. Forget it, I'm a space cadet. I just watched Catching Fire, Jennifer! I remember you talking about going to see it and I wasn't so sure and you were so crazy about it so I put in on the library account. Wow, that was long winded. Sorry.

We do the summer reading club too. Does yours have one for adults? We get a free tote bag and chance to win something cool that I never win, but that's fine. I like tote bags. I did get to attend author talks by Marissa Meyer and Debbie Macomber.

That's wonderful about Janie being such a reader. Will is a pretty fast reader because of the captions on his computer games. I can't take any credit for it!

      We're library girls. Cool!

  4. I love that you go to the library so much. Our's doesn't have any of the books I read. They do have some for my genres that I've already read, but it's so sparse on the other ones. They carry a lot of romance novels and children's books though. Happy reading :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. I wish you had a rockin' library, Jaclyn! I can see you humming as you peruse the stacks! I always come back with more books than i can read when I thumb through the stacks.

Romance and children's...good, but about UF and paranormal and SF and YA! Let's write them a letter.

  5. That's great Robin! Sadly I haven't gone to my local library for a very long time. I don't even think my library card oorks anymore so I might have to get a new one. But first I'll have to find my card. I don't even know where it is or if I have it. Whoops, I remember where it is now. LOL But I should go back there one of these days.

    1. I missed this comment! Man, I'm sorry Ki! I hadn't been to my library in so long I didn't have my card anymore either and I owed 50 cents. The cool thing now about many libraries is now much you can do online. I save so much money reserving movies when they come out to DVD so I don't have to rent them. And I can request purchase books and when the library purchases it, it shows up on my account. If I fall in love with a movie, DVD, or CD I buy it. Now it's hard for me to buy something without first checking it out at my library. Go back for sure! Especially since you're saving for your big trip.
