COYER Review of Avenging Angel by Cynthia Eden

4 STARS! Some time back I won a signed copy of Avenging Angel (The Fallen #4) by Cynthia Eden. Thank you Jillian at Busy Moms Book Reviews and author Cynthia Eden. I was so excited to win, but then the book sat on my shelf forever! For summer COYER, I've decided to hit my contest wins, starting with this steamy paranormal romance. If you're looking for a book that will take you away from the real world for a spell, dive into Tanner and Marna's story.

Marna is an angel trapped on earth, not because she chose to fall, but because a shifter clawed off her wings! Brutal. Tanner saves her life, but will never let himself off the hook since her attacker was his brother! He vows to keep his beautiful, innocent angel safe. She vows to keep herself safe (with a touch of blood vengeance). Not your typical sweet angel that Marna girl. The two do not get what they aim for when some supernatural bad guy uses Marna's image and commits murder. Did I mention Tanner is a cop? So he arrests her. She's pissed. He's pissed (because he's always a bit angry). Quickly, the two find themselves tangled in a mystery they must solve and a shared desire that has no end in sight. Good stuff.

I loved returning to straight up paranormal romance. There were a few twists I didn't see coming. The romance wasn't a surprise, but Marna is a with it woman and I loved her curiosity and honesty.

If you're interested in signing up for COYER (clean out your ereader - but this time you can read any book e or otherwise), click on the cool graphic.

Also, there's still time to enter the Soul Twister giveaway for a chance at Amazon gift cards and any one of my Touched Girl books.

    1. I love angel and shifter stories too. This is book 4, but I didn't feel lost since I haven't read the previous installments. There is a fun play on good and evil and what qualifies. Any time you have angels who play different roles, death, guardian... there's room for some good debates on the issue.

Hey, great review of Tomorrow Wendell. I wish I came up with clever titles like that!

  2. This sounds like such a great book! I love the way that she didn't fall but other circumstances happened, and the added mystery of who posed as her and committed murder. Don't you just love it when a book you've had sitting there for so long ends up being so good! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. The whole fall from heaven, but not really was pretty cool and the murder mystery was fun...er, you know what I mean. I do just love it when a book that was sitting on my shelf forever ends up being awesome. I'm actually hitting my physical TBR shelf like a mad women (who reads slow). I think they will all rock!

I hope you're having a great week. Oh, I'm not sure about the new Bear show. I liked last year's one better.

  3. Avenging Angel sounds awesome, Robyn! And Cynthia Eden usually makes my day with her stories, so of course, with your endorsement of Marna, I could only add this one to my TBR :)
    Great review, thanks for sharing!
We are having rain, rain and more rain. It's been raining for the whole time since the kids stopped school in the end of June - so today the girls and I are going to see a movie. Good thing we have one week of vacation away planned from next week, we need some sun and fun!

    1. Cynthia Eden's books are always so smooth and easy to read. And Marna rocks. I think how women are portrayed in classic paranormal romance is always what really determines how much I'll enjoy the read. I still like the damsel in distress, but I love it when the damsel shines and grows.

That is not cool about all that rain! Movies on a rainy day sounds like the very best remedy! What are you going to watch? I hope you all have a blast!!

  4. Very interesting, Robyn! You know you had me at brutal! lol

I like the concept of angels and most of all I liked that it has sudden twists. My weak point!:)

    Thanks for sharing!
(I mention you in my latest post!:) )

    1. Brutal... you don't fool me. I bet there is a long list of sappy romances you secretly love! Okay, maybe not a long list. Now for these twists, I once read a mystery where the author offered up so much information, some of it led nowhere, but all it designed to make guessing near impossible. As you write and work twists and turns into your story, do you have a place you're going so you engineer the mysterious path there, or do you go one turn at a time and work in the fine tuning like foreshadowing later?

    2. I haven't read a romance book. I mean purely romance and I'm extremely curious what it might happening in them! :)

That mystery book sounds smart. I like it when things are not plain. It makes me keep reading.

Honestly, I go a turn at a time, which is so making me fly! I take a turn and about the time I think i see the road ... something unexpected comes to mind and I end up following another path.
I love writing, because it surprises me to and I feel like I'm reading the story instead of writing. Does that make any sense? :)

    3. It totally makes sense, Athina!!

  5. You know I keep book journals of all my reads/reviews, right? I also have one where I keep authors I want to read. Cynthia Eden's entire body of work is on my list. And I've yet to read a one. But I just may start with this series. I haven't read a PNR is awhile. It's time, huh?? Great review, girlie!

    1. I really enjoyed this. If you're looking for something to cleanse the palette, she's a good pick. I think I'll hit mystery and then historical (Defiant) before I cycle back to PNR though. Maybe even The Book Thief? There, you can tell Sky I played my part. hehe
