So I have a little dilemma. I read a pretty innocent YA book (Prince of Wolves) and then jumped right into a hardcore steamy read (Winter's Thaw). Is it bad form to review them together? Maybe. But I'm gonna do it anyway.
4 STARS! Winter's Thaw by Mari Carr and Jayne Rylon is awesome, heartwarming, and mega hot. I love the characters, though the cover actors look nothing like my Sienna and Daniel. Sienna is not a wild girl. She's not damaged. She doesn't even have a hard life. But the girl is robotic in her pursuit to marry her lackluster high school sweetheart. Enter hot, easy going, sex God Daniel. These two had crazy good chemistry. I loved Sienna's journey to learn more about herself. Winter's Thaw is book one in a new series, but it's a spin off from the Compass Brothers series. Just to warn you, if you like your sex scenes mostly left to your imagination or if you like it completely vanilla, maybe this isn't for you, or maybe it's exactly for you!
These books sound really good, Robyn. Especially the Winter's Thaw. I'm currently reading Before I go to Sleep, by Watson.
ReplyDeleteIt's too good so far.
Thanks for sharing these mini reviews. Clean out your e-reader challenge sounds fun.
Winter's Thaw was a great escape. Before I go to Sleep looks good. I can't wait for your review. Funny thing about this challenge...I enjoyed Winter's Thaw so much, I just bought book 2, Hope Springs. How is NaNo going?
DeleteNano is just going. One day good, one day bad. I don't really know if I will make it to 50.000. How about you? It is your first time in NaNo?
DeleteThis is my first NaNo. I still don't have the ins and outs of the whole deal, just that I am to reach or surpass a certain word count daily. That's what I tell myself because I used to write easily a few thousand words a day, but hard times and the emerging internal editor zapped that count to nothing. I'm not sure what will be salvageable come the start of December, but I hope to turn this into an established routine. Just write. Write shit, write truth, heart, whatever. Get the story off the ground.
DeleteLOL I have Prince of Wolves on my kindle waiting for me, Robyn. But it didn't make my COYER list. I'm glad you liked it - now I know what I have in store. I love books with a great cast.
ReplyDeleteAs for Winter's Thaw...hmm, sounds like the perfect book for a snowy day here. I actually have read at least 2 of the 4 Compass Brothers books, so I'll definitely add Winter's Thaw to my TBR. :) Especially since Carr & Rylon's imagination in the bedroom is much more creative than mine. ;) LOL
LOL! Those two are pretty creative. You're right about this being a good snowy day read. I remember reading you had to get snow tires or some such. Did you guys get snow? Rain for us. And wind! It was amazing watching it because the leaves are still falling. I'm reading Clutch now. hehe
