Movie Review and a chat with my 12 year old about Transformers: Age of Extinction

5 STARS!! As soon as my 12 year old found out about the new Transformers movie he made me promise that I'd take him to see it. Easy promise. I love the movies (not the second one even a little bit) and I couldn't wait to see Mark Wahlberg breathe new life into the franchise. So I packed him a baggie of chips and me a baggie of Skittles and off we went. We were bouncing in our seats from the opening scene to the end. We squealed. We fist bumped. One time he put his arm around me because he was just so happy to be watching this movie after seeing the trailers on youtube. The kid is a youtube master.

Will won't say this one is his favorite in the series because he doesn't think in terms of favorites, but I do and this one was for sure. The story was less sexualized than the previous installments. There were less swear words with the exception of an out of place f-bomb that wasn't necessary and I'm usually all for throwing the f-word around. The comedic timing was spot on. The young couple was a tad scandalous, but nothing tactless. The bad guy a little over the top, but how do you share a screen with awesome transformers and not go too far? The action was from start to finish and so much fun. I had a little chat with Will about the movie and I thought I'd share it with you.

What Transformers did you see in the movie, Will?
The Autobots, Decepticons, and Dinobots that we saw were Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Drift, Crosshairs, Hound, Grimlock, Slug, Straffe, Slash, Scorn, Galvatron, Ratchet, Leadfoot, Lockdown, and Stinger.

What was the movie about?
The Autobots were being hunted by the general. He hated robots. He worked with Lockdown. Kade, Tessa and her love were the good guys. My favorite human was Kade because he was a good guy and Tessa's dad.

Was the movie scary?
No way. It was exciting. The Autobots in action freaked me out and made me happy.

What was your favorite part?
The humans meeting the Autobots.

Was there a part you did not like?
Yep. I didn't like the part where the humans were working with the Decepticons.

There you have it. We both can't wait to watch it again!

  1. Yay for movie time with Will!! I'm happy you two loved this one. And it's neat you shared your conversation with him. I loved his answer to what the movie was about - pretty succinct. ;) My mom took my nephews to see this while they were visiting and my youngest nephew, Levi, told me all about it once he knew I wasn't going to see it. *ha* He was unhappy because one of his favorites was killed. Oh, and it makes me mad that they threw in a gratuitous f-bomb. I don't mind them at all...as long as they make sense.

    1. You're not going to see the movie?! What?! I would be just like Levi and tell you everything that happened. I know what part was upsetting. That was rough and I was ready to comfort Will but he moved on pretty quick. The f-bomb was ridiculous but I figure Stanley Tucci ad-libbed during a crazy scene and it cost too much to do a retake. We certainly don't mind our swear words!

    1. My son stood over me during the interview to make sure I typed the transformers in the right order with the right spelling.

I saw some reviewers on Amazon giving it 1 star reviews, but I just loved it. It was so much fun. I hope when you get a chance to see it you enjoy it!

    1. I'm glad you can picture Will standing over me as I typed. That makes me smile because every time I mistyped, he tapped the screen and corrected me.

Mark Wahlberg is always good to look at! Have you seen Shooter? It's one of my favorites with him in it!

  5. I'm really wanting to watch this one, but I haven't seen it just yet. I love that you had a chat with Will about it. I love watching how kids share their experiences. It's really how my mind works with the good vs. bad. So easy to see in the things he liked and the things he didn't. Love it :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. Oh, I think you'll enjoy this one. I can't wait to see it again. I remember reading Zane's reviews and enjoying his perspective so much. It was neat asking him questions about the movie. He kept giving me spoilers so I had to change up the question until his answer was safe enough. I can't wait to do it again.
