Think Out Loud [46] Need help choosing a movie? I went overboard.

Spring break is approaching, how about a movie marathon?

For the mature audience...
We're the Millers is insane, raunchy, and full of a sh*! load of swear words. If you are squeamish at all this is not your movie. I laughed so hard I cried. There is a scene I kept pausing and freaking out because, "No! Don't do it. Oh God. I can't look." Man, it was fun.
The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy is the best girl buddy movie ever. If you're looking for tons of laughs, unstable characters carrying firearms, a bit of man bashing, and a girl with serious anger management issues, then watch The Heat.
Red 2 is wackier than Red 1. Everything is a few degrees more ridiculous and I loved it! There were a few twists and turns that surprised me. Okay, I confess the biggest reason to watch this movie is for standout Byung-hun Lee.

For the teen or parent of teen audience...

The Kings of Summer was meant to be background noise while I did chores. Instead, I was captivated from the first scene. The kids are jerks and sweet at the same time. The parents are hopefully more caricatures than anything else, but maybe not. I love a story about a journey that takes place within an actual journey of some kind. And really, there is something beautiful and endearing about this tale, yeah, it's a tale, a fun one, sometimes emotional, a bit eye opening, and certainly funny. Oh, and don't believe the Stand By Me comparisons. As much as I love the River Phoenix 80's classic, The Kings of Summer is so much more optimistic or more innocent. Something, just not Stand By Me. Oh, and actor Moises Arias was made of awesome!
The Way Way Back took me back to my childhood summers going to the town pool. I loved this movie start to finish. It had the feel of a YA book, maybe it was the pacing, sort of easygoing. Actor Liam James (who played young Sean on the TV show Psych) was so amazing. I wanted to go back in time and be his friend when I was a kid.

For anyone...

Gravity rocked. Seriously, rent it, buy it. Whatever. It's exciting and touching and 90 minutes of pure captivation. I love stories without bad guys but with the same effect. Space is a deadly, cold bastard and no place for anything living. Everything about it says, stay out, and yet we don't. Humans make fancy suits and tools to survive the harshest environment imaginable. Gravity pits the two together, space and humans. Dang!
The Lego Movie was a visual candyland. I loved it. Everything is awesome is so right. There are so many funny characters in this movie, I'll have to watch it several times to figure out who is my favorite. Plus there's an actual story here and a message and amazing creativity. When I wasn't laughing, I was grinning.
Frozen is out on DVD! The humor is spot on and current. The princess story is far from predictable. I can't wait to watch it again!! Oh, and the music goes from funny to incredibly moving.

People, it's time to join this meme if you haven't. That sounds bossy, because I'm bossy. But really, Think Out Loud is an "anything you want" meme and a way to take a break from the day to day blogger routine. Of course I did just review a bunch of movies, see anything you want.

  1. Oh I so want to see the Millers!!! that's one I've been eyeing since I saw the preview in theater way back when.
Frozen......Gosh I haven't seen it but this is one crazy kids film! I'm not going to see it just because. But I love listening to the "Let It Go" song in 25 different languages. That's the only time you'll catch me watching it. LOL

    1. I think the Millers will make you laugh so much! One day they'll make an epic historical or naughty NA romance animated movie and you'll squeal like a little girl! Probably not. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Ki (hopefully free of any dating pressures)!

    1. Ha ha! Yes I have very refined taste. I'm still laughing at that. I didn't think I'd love Gravity as much as I did. It packs a punch. I loved it. Oh, and I have a Catching Fire date with a cup of coffee and time off from the boys. Yay! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Think!!

  3. Robyn, the only ones I've heard of are The Lego Movie and Frozen...how sad is that?!? I will have to check out some of these...perhaps I can put one on while I'm supposed to be doing chores. :) I think The Heat will be up first. I love Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Thanks for lining up some great movie fare for us, girl! :)

    1. I can't even say that's sad. I only know movies because I procrastinate by way of watching youtube movie trailers. I'm so oblivious my sister was watching an interview with One Direction and this is me, "They have an accent?"

The Heat is so much fun! Smart ladies and smart comedy, plus swear words. I love this movie! I love Sandra Bullock too. You watched The Blindside, right? I'm thinking you mentioned something about that on my sports movie post. That was so good!

I hope you get stuff done and watch a couple fun movies!

  4. So many movies! I want to see The Millers and The Heat so much! I'm glad you enjoyed them, Robyn. Frozen was great, but about Gravity I have mixed feelings. I haven't decided yet if I liked it or not. The others I have to check them out. :)

Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing!

    1. You have to go on about your mixed feelings. I love that. You said that about World War Z, or maybe that one you didn't like because wherever he went he brought death and chaos. My mind is editorializing. I wasn't convinced I'd enjoy Gravity. I couldn't see how a girl in space freaking out all the time would be entertaining. But I loved it.

I hope you laugh your butt off watching The Millers and The Heat. Pure fun those two!

I hope you have a great week too, Athina!

    2. Well, I have mixed feelings because I felt the movie was a little boring. But the "weird" part is that the time did fly. So, it wasn't very interesting, but I spent a nice time. It's confusing. hehe

I watched The Heat yesterday and I laughed so hard. :) Amazing! Next time The Millers!
