Every summer when I was a kid, my mom sent us off to visit my grandma in Iowa. We went from an ocean view at every turn and unending sweltering heat to farmland and unending sweltering heat. And I loved it! I loved the rocky drives through the country. I loved the family reunions and constant stream of cousins and card games. The noise was the best, or maybe the smells. Not sure, but summer is magic to me. So here are a couple songs that make me think of the sun and chlorine water, the snobby lifeguards and endless bag of potato chips old ladies always have in their kitchens. I'm cheating this month because I'm picking two songs.
John Mellencamp's Jack & Diane
Nena's 99 Red Balloons
I'll add my mom and sister's picks when they take a breather from creating an insanely beautiful garden.
Oh, and what do you think of the graphic for the theme song posts? Pretty cool, huh. Our very own Jaclyn Canada at JC's Book Haven created the image.
Those are great summer songs! Two of my favorites both come from Van Halen. :) Beautiful Girls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rD70bNDujQU and Dancing the Night Away https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPOzsCmpIA0
ReplyDeleteSummer for me is all about the oldies. My favorite season is fall. Love the color and the change of the weather from that sweltering heat you mentioned to warm days and brisk nights. I listen to a lot of classical music then, and unless you're a fan, I won't force those upon you here. :)
I couldn't see the graphic btw. I'm on a Mac using Safari, so that could be the issue. I'll refresh and see if that helps...
Ha! I'm not much of a classical music girl. It gets me hyper...too many Tom and Jerry cartoons as a kid. My 8am sculpture class in college had classical music playing the first week of class and then I had a total fit. "For the love of God! Play anything else, man! I can't take it anymore." Luckily the professor and I both loved jazz. He even made me a mixed tape.
DeleteI love fall too. The relief from the heat, the bright fiery colors, the excuse for hot drinks that require excessive marshmallows.
Great summer songs, E.J. I added them to June's playlist!! I hope all is well. Oh, and maybe I should try saving the graphics differently and then adding it differently. hmm
I LOVE Jack & Diane. Such a magnificent song. I had to sit and think a while of whether I've heard the 99 balloons song, and I believe I have but it sure is pushed back in my memory. I enjoyed it a lot though :D Great choices! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard 99 Red Balloons in years! And then I heard it in the car Sunday and I just had to use if for my theme song. I remember loving Jack & Diane so much. The pool where we swam during the summer always played music, most of it 80's rock, which I loved too, but John Mellencamp was king.
DeleteWow! Jack & Diane brings back memories! ;) Great theme songs, Robyn! And I love the graphic Jaclyn designed! I'll have to use it when I get my post up. :) Thanks for sharing your summer memories along with the songs. It makes me nostalgic. I spent lots of time with my grandparents (mom's parents) but summer were the best!
ReplyDeleteOh man, there is nothing like summers with the grandparents. I am most nostalgic during this time of year. I think because Guam doesn't have real seasons, more like typhoon season, rainy season, worm season (not shitting you), termite season (seriously). But once June hit we flew to hot and sticky Iowa and to actual summer.
DeleteI hope the quiet house is a wonderful reprieve and you're not missing the kids too much.
I ADORE 99 balloons! And I adore summer! I agree with Brandee - the graphic Jaclyn designed rocks. I'm making a post this month, I swear! :D
ReplyDeleteNo pressure, but I can't wait for your selections! You are such a music girl. My sister is too. She sits on her floor with her headphones and grooves. Even when we were kids and I was banging on her door so she'd play with me. Nope, it was all about the music.
DeleteI’m going to read this. I’ll be sure to come back. thanks for sharing. and also This article gives the light in which we can observe the reality. this is very nice one and gives indepth information. thanks for this nice article... how much termite treatment cost
