The world is in your hands

Pink Moon (2936081649)
I surfed under a pink moon once long ago. I was a terrible surfer, barely knew the etiquette, kept falling off the board because that first second you pop up and land on a surface pushed by the warm Pacific you bounce, or I bounce. It wasn't my board or ride to the beach or even my idea. Midnight surfing under a full moon? Still, I was giddy. A couple times early on I thought about how turtle-like I looked for hungry sharks, then my eyes found the moon, huge and pink and so close I lost my breath. It was a pure moment, salt water dripping from my hair, goosebumps traveling my body, laughter all around me because my friends were crazy, the kind of crazy that plan a midnight surfing trip. It was a moment when the world stretched forward and stood all around you, not so out of reach, not so unattainable. That's it. It's that moment when you feel like you can take on the world. It was so good.

  1. I can't remember feeling that way. I know I have felt it along time ago but when and for what is lost to me. But I felt it and that's what counts. =)

    1. It counts. You'll remember when you felt that way or you'll get to feel it like you never had before. I imagine that's kind of like getting read a favorite book all over again, but it feeling like the first time. Wouldn't that be so neat? I hope all is well and your TBR shelf isn't stalking you.

  2. Robyn, that gave me goosebumps. I'd have to think about it - for awhile, apparently - to remember if I've ever felt that. Maybe I've felt that way when I've done an amazing hike? I think I usually feel small and insignificant...but in a good way. Does that make sense? You and your words though...you perfectly painted that picture for me. I can see you on a surfboard underneath a pink moon. :)

    1. Oh that feeling you get on a hike. Small in all that nature, but being a part of it, breathing it in, burning it to your memory. I haven't felt that in forever! Man. Hey, I'll see you soon. Yay!

  3. Oh, Robyn! You bring back so many memories! I don't surf, I haven't tried it but I have my fair share of midnight swims. My best one though was not actually a midnight but while the sun was rising. You know that time of the day where the darkness retreats and the sea is painted with a rainbow of colors as the sun is moving fast. up and higher to the sky.
    It was amazing. :)

    1. Wow! Swimming at dawn sounds amazing. I love sunrise more than any other time of day. And then to be swimming, that had to be so wonderful. What a picture you created. I can see it. I've rowed at that time of day and made the whole team do pushups because I was busy watching the mountain turn pink instead of listening to the coaches.

  4. WOW Robyn! That sounds like a very special and truly wonderful moment indeed! I've never surfed, nor seen a purple moon, but I can imagine how amazing it must have been! Thanks for sharing a memory with us :)
    I hope you're having a fantastic week.

    1. I imagine the sights you've fallen in love with in all your travels, just as spellbinding I imagine. I remember one of your pictures from your blog, train tracks in NY or NJ? I'm not sure, but I'm thinking it was the US for sure. I hope you have a fantastic week too!
