Q: Tell us about the most emotional scene you’ve ever read in a book – and how did you react?
I try real hard to forget hardcore emotional reads. Charlotte's Web messed me up when I was a kid. The movie made it worse. I remember eating too much popcorn and being so upset I threw up all over my octopus (my favorite stuffed animal my mom made with yarn). Without the throwing up part because I quit movie theater popcorn after that, I had the same reaction to Bambi. Damn baby deer. Both my kids know I hate Bambi. Recently, I bawled my eyes out with Guitar Notes by Mary Amato. I fell in love Tripp Brody and whatever he felt, I felt. It was good crying though, so no need to sic the "forget spiders" on that read. How about you? Any books send you to the brink of therapy?

  1. Charlotte's Web angered me, that poor spider doing everything for that pig including risking her babies. I agree, it was an emotional read.

  3. Ok, I really have a big problem lol I read your answer and I thought of my comment. I was so sure I had published it and all, somehow I ended up reading the think out loud post, commenting and I see this window open and think, "I remember this, didn't I just comment here?" I check and I hadn't. Anyway.
I don't like watching sad movies in front of others because I know I will cry. I like to watch them by myself and it's the same with books. If I get to a point when I'm about to cry I have to be alone, otherwise I stop reading. There have been a lot that have made me cry, the worst I think is the boy in the striped pajamas. Most of Nicholas Sparks make me cry as well.

    1. Oh I hate having to rewrite my comments. I do something with my pinky and everything disappears! Grrh. I hate crying in public. And I can't always control it. If I'm watching a tearjerker with my sister, she won't stop looking over to see if I'm crying yet. Then my mom slips me a tissue when I think I've been so sneaky with the tears. I couldn't handle crying over my book in front of people. No way. I'd slam the book shut and hop to my feet. I haven't read any Nicholas Sparks yet and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas has been on my wish list for a long time.

  5. Yeah, Bambi!! I don't want to think about that!
I am not usually crying while reading a book but The Hunger Games made me cry.

    1. Yes, The Hungers Games broke my heart. I try not to think about Bambi too, but they keep adding the preview to my son's DVD's. GRRH! Thanks for stopping by.

  6. Hopping through. I think I might have been too young for Charlotte's Web to hit me emotionally. I do remember loving it though. Or maybe I've forgotten crying.

    1. I was just old enough to be destroyed. My sister was with me in the movie theater (before it wall went to hell) and cried out, "Charolette, come back." So sweet.

  7. What a memory! But I can see how Charlotte's Web could have that effect.

It's prob for the best to avoid movie popcorn. I, on the other hand, can never resist. :(

    1. My mom and siter can't resist either. I have an amazing memory when it comes to useless information. I remember TV shows from when I was a kid, actual episodes, even cartoons. I remember voices, but not faces.

  8. How funny! I wasn't even thinking of children's books with this post. I HATE Bambi as well LOL. Not a fan of that at all. And Charlotte's Web was definitely a tear-jerker when I was small and I can't stand spiders...the ninja beasts. Great answer! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. Thank goodness my mom didn't branch out and have us read more of these animal snuff books! I hate spiders too, not Charolette, but you should see how wussy I am about them.

  9. Oh my, Charlotte's Web. Yes, that was definitely a messed up book yet one of my favorites from childhood. I guess because death is a part of life, or else I'm just morbid like that, lol.

I've always wondered why in every Disney movie one or both parents are dead. I never thought about it much as a kid until I started watching the movies with my kids. I'm thinking wow, this is pretty morbid for kids. The Land Before Time always got to me. I cried every single time I saw that movie.

    1. I can't believe you're morbid (hehe). I tell you what, I kill off parents in my stories all the time! I don't remember The Land Before Time being sad, but All Dogs Go To Heaven broke my heart! The Lion King, man, I couldn't believe the dad died right at the beginning. You're right, Disney is dark.

  10. I haven't read Charlotte's Web, but I have Guitar Notes on my TBR list. So far I can't remember any book scene that made shed tears. Movies, though, do that to me sometimes. :)

    1. People kept listing all these books that made me cry that I overlooked for this week's FF. I'm a wuss. I even got emotion with some of their descritions, like one person described Lovely Bones, goodness. Thanks for stopping by, Kaykay!
