Think Out Loud [8] Time for some Escapism!

Today has been one of those days. I'm sure there are moms out there who take the punches gracefully, who swallow their frustrations, who still manage a small smile at the total terrors wreaking havoc on her sanity, unicorn moms I call them. They exist, but I don't behave too great around them. Since exercising didn't work. Homemade pizza did not work. Watching back TV shows and finally working through a tricky scene in my next novel didn't work, oh and the woman at the grocery store going out of her way today to give me a pep talk about motherhood, making me cry right there at Fred Meyer's and then hugging me didn't work, I've decided to focus on escapism. Specifically the movies, TV shows, and books I'm looking forward to in the near future (meaning between now and the end of summer).

Movies in the theaters
Iron Man 3
Star Trek (no brainer for me-I loved the original movies, I loved the last release, and this one looks so good)
(sorry that's it for near future)

Movies on DVD
The Hobbit
Safe Haven
Silver Linings Playbook
Lincoln
(I'm on the wait list for all of them at my library-yay!)

TV Shows
Longmire on A&E (Walt's got a girl, maybe)
The Glades on A&E (No more long distance romance...please!)
Covert Affairs on USA (What the heck was in that file folder?)
Burn Notice on USA (Fi, baby, don't be so mad at Michael)
Big Brother on CBS (because I can't help it, okay?)

Books
Fall of Night by Rachel Caine
Chosen at Nightfall by C.C. Hunter
Dare You To by Katie McGarry
Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead
Oh, and my friend Snuggles at Rainbows and Books has a Reading for Whimsy feature on her blog, so I'll be reading either The Great Gatsby (again) or To Kill A Mocking Bird (which was my vote)
I almost forgot, Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven flipped my switch about Kim Harrison. So I'll have a book from that series at the ready for a while since I'm only on the first one.
Lastly, I'll be reading at least one Craig Johnson book (the Walt Longmire series - adapted to the TV series I mentioned above).

Come and play. Vent, chat, sing, post whatever is on your mind. Think Out Loud is just that kind of meme!

  1. This is such a cool post - I wrote about movies, too, lol! I can't wait to go see Star Trek!! I'm seeing it with my friend, Jill, in IMAX 3-D, woo hoo! When I saw the first one, I was pregnant with my son and cried so much at the beginning. >.<

I want to see Iron Man 3 in the theater, too. The first one was so exciting in the theater. I didn't get to see the second one in theaters, but I do want to see the third. :)

    I can't wait for Big Brother! I'm glad you're a fan, too - we can dish. :D

Gameboard of the Gods looks completely awesome. I can tell that's going to be on everyone's blog coming up, lol.

    1. Hi Jennifer! You'll have to do a post after you watch Star Trek. I don't remember if I cried at the beginning of the last one. I cry at all the wrong times generally, like Chandler on Friends. Big Brother is the only show my youngest will watch with me because everyone is so over the top. We will have to dish for sure!! I've seen a couple Gameboard of the Gods arc reviews but I've stayed away from them. Even when Richelle Mead chaps my hide I still love the book. I'm still wide eyed that you're getting to see Star Trek in IMAX 3-D. Neato!

    1. I think both won't disappoint. Finding the time is so hard. When I get a chance, I sit on the couch with my laptop, my latest read, and the remotes. I can't figure out which to choose! Thanks for the Bruno Mars pick me up!

    1. Shoot! It's a book? I completely missed that. Now I'm conflicted. Nope. I'll watch the movie first...Sure enough, by Matthew Quick. I just added it to my shelf. Thanks Jennifer. That's why bloggers rock!

  4. Escapism is a great thing, Robyn! It's why I read so much. :) I love the term unicorn mom - that's awesome. I wouldn't behave well around one either! ;) Oh, and I'm sooo looking forward to Star Trek!

    1. I love that everyone wants to watch Star Trek. It's one of my favorite franchises. Maybe they'll create another TV series. I really miss them! And I've only met a couple unicorn moms...I might have actually snarled (I'm not proud).

  5. Okay, I think I'm going to spoil the Star Trek excitement for you. 'I don't like Star Trek, it's not interesting, and I don't even understand what they say or do in the movie.'

Well, that's my five-or-six-year old self talking. Back then we watched Star Trek on Sky One Channel, every evening I think. But I couldn't understand anything. Didn't even know what sci-fi meant. So I let the mentality of Star-Trek-Isn't-Interesting to grow with me. And I never gave it a chance.

When I grew up, and began to read sci-fi, I realized that the genre was really cool. In fact, sci-fi is one of my favorite genre now. I enjoyed the latest one I read: PREY by Michael Crichton. So maybe I'll give Star Trek a chance after all.

BTW, Silver Linings Playbook is a great movie. I saw the movie about three weeks ago. Jennifer Lawrence deserved the oscar!

    Happy Reading and Watching TV/Movies!

  6. Hi Kaykay! Have you watched Galaxy Quest with Tim Allen? It's so funny and it makes fun of all the Star Trek type shows. I think you might enjoy the modern version of Star Trek. It might be like me not liking the original Battlestar Galatica, but the remake is one of my favorite sci-fi shows of all time.

I'm glad to hear about Silver Linings Playbook. I fell in love with Jennifer Lawrence when I saw her in Winter's Bone. If you do check out Star Trek, stop by and let me know what you think.

    1. Yay! I really hope I get a chance to see it in the theaters. I used my newly acquired Pretty Little Liars information already. I guess someone in the books died and didn't die on the show and she's holding a grudge. I told her Melody said it was a really good series. I'm not sure I was very convincing.

  8. Life can be really hard sometimes. I used to escape in shows when I was younger. I think that's why I love Roswell so much. It had everything I wanted and it was just amazing.
I had never seen Star Trek, but about two weeks ago my aunt started watching a movie on tv, she didn't know what it was and neither did I. It was just starting so we got to see it from the beginning, it turned out to be Star Trek and we loved it.

    1. I remember when Roswell was on and it hit the spot for me too. I really miss shows like that. Seems like most of the new shows are missing the mark, especially sci-fi and supernatural shows. Ha! A New Star Trek fan. hehe
