Sidekick Showcase [52] LGBT Pride!!

Sidekick Showcase is a weekly meme created by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven to celebrate those awesome side characters who deserve a bit of the limelight too! Each week or sometimes month Jaclyn offers up a topic/challenge and it's up to us to cast our favorite side character. You can get nutty with it, find an actor who fits the image in your head, post quotes, make your own drawing. So snag the graphic, share your pick, and link up on the Linky Link. Happy reading, folks!

For the month of June there are a lot of topic options. Father's Day, summertime awesomeness, LGBT pride. I'm going with LGBT pride. I recently read and fell in love with the book Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Holy cow, I love it! Start to finish I felt lucky, like Aristotle chose me to share his world with, because Ari is plain cool. One of the things that makes him so cool is that when he meets oddball Dante, he sees straight to what matters, that Dante is pure goodness. Dante is fifteen, honest to a fault, hates wearing shoes, loves and likes his parents, and is the closest friend Ari has ever had.

He was funny and focused and fierce. I mean the guy could be fierce. And there wasn’t anything mean about him. I didn’t understand how you could live in a mean world and not have any of that meanness rub off on you. How could a guy live without some meanness? Dante became one more mystery in a universe full of mysteries.
Benjamin Alire Sáenz (2012-02-21T08:00:00+00:00). Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Kindle Locations 266-269). Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. Kindle Edition.

Okay, I kind of derailed on my mission to find quotes and almost started reading the book again. It is that wonderful. Dante is light to Ari's darkness and the two find each other and form a true friendship right at the point in childhood when hardness can so easily settle in for the long haul.
