My stepbrother once said to me, "Don't let them fool you, Robyn. Theology is just religion." When I remember this moment we're sitting on a bench, he has his guitar on his lap, I'm in my Catholic school uniform, and his words light up the darkness. It's become a mantra, a weird one that I pair with a knowing smirk. In the movie Sliding Doors, a line is pulled from Monte Python, "No one expects the Spanish Inquisition." I love that one. How about you? Do you have a mantra that pops into your head right when you need it?
Think Out Loud is a super cool anything you want meme. How about it?
One of my most-used mantras is 'everything will work out perfectly fine'... And I try to always stay positive, or find something positive in every situations.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love Monty Python! I own all their movies, and I used to be able to recite them by heart :)
Have a great Thursday, Robyn :) *hugs*

Oh, that's a good one, Lexxie. I can just imagine hearing that in a soothing voice and nodding along.
DeleteI love Monty Python too. The white bunny has to be one of the funniest scenes of all time. My stepsister had made this Southern Comfort rum cake and I have no alcohol tolerance. And a sweet tooth. Then I watched The Holy Grail. What a combination! It's the only Monty Python movie I've watched but Mr. Bean makes me laugh until I cry.
Do you have a Monty Python recommendation?
Hmmm that's so funny because I've never really thought of a mantra, as you say. Teehee, But if I think real hard, I tend to tell myself, "don't do it, don't do it, stupid, stupid, stupid" all the time. LOL I don't know what that says about me to you but, I tend to put myself in a situation where I get mad at myself. XP
ReplyDeleteHa! That is awesome. I need to get busy living so that I can have the opportunity to use your mantra, of course I have done plenty of stupid things. When I tell some of those stories people always ask me how old I was...I'm like, uh, that was last week.
DeleteThat's so nice. I don't really remeber when I start believing, but two mantras has stuck in my head. "Anything can happen" and 'Everything happens for a reason." :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, Robyn.
Here is my TOL http://between-my-lines.blogspot.gr/2013/10/think-out-loud-possibility.html
Those are great mantras, Athina. My brain refuses to be that positive dangit. I try out lines I've seen in movies, but only the dark or swearing ones stick. I love your TOL, still has me thinking.
DeleteOMG!! I LOVE SLIDING DOORS!! (sorry for the shouty caps ;) I do have mantras - I really started saying them a lot after reading The Happiness Project. :) My fav - one I repeat to several members of my family is 'Smile Like You Mean It'. Another is 'Make it a great day...or not. It's your choice.'
ReplyDeleteI hope you've had a great week, Robyn! *hugs*
Isn't that such a great movie? I love the guy. Big ol' crush on him. Your mantras are awesome, the second one sounds very much like a mom, it's the "or not." I hear it in my head a little higher pitched. I love smile like you mean it. That one is accompanied by a growl. Maybe you don't growl when you say it though.
DeleteI don't even know what kind of week I've had. I hope yours was better. Maybe crafts were involved?
I don't know if this counts as a mantra but I love this lyric from Please Please Please by Fiona Apple. "My method is uncertain. It's a mess, but it's working." I try to tell myself that when my life gets out of control. LoL.
ReplyDeleteThat's totally a mantra! And I love it. I haven't listened to Fiona Apple in a while. I read the comments on your TOL post, Miley is certainly a hot topic! I hope you have a good weekend, no mantras needed.
