Think Out Loud [35] Moms mess up too!

The other night, Will had a runny nose. He truly looked miserable. I already prepared myself for this because John coughed all over his big brother...on purpose...just to make me lose my mind!
The next morning was more of the same. John was snotty. Will was snotty.
So no school for both boys.
I left the room and went back to bed.
Fifteen minutes later, Will nudged me (yes, I had already fallen asleep). "Mom, what should I do?"
"You're staying home today."
"What!? Sweet!" That was my first clue that I had seriously misjudged the situation. I finally opened my eyes and caught sight of my eleven year old pumping his arms in the air. I also noticed the school uniform and lack of sniffles. Shit. I told myself he could be sick and just overwhelmed with joy, but then he dropped to the floor and started doing push-ups.
"Uh," was all I managed because then he started doing one arm push-ups.
He went to school after all. And he's still pissed about it.

Think Out Loud is a meme like no other. Post whatever is on your mind, rants, jokes, your favorite song. Join us cause we're cool people. Honest.

    1. Your TOL post took me back and made me laugh. I thought laughing would be good right now and lucky thing the boys supply me with so many stories. I love sharing them! Thanks for this awesome meme. I love figuring out what to post.

    1. Sadness, Ki! We're sick every dang month. They go to school and to their dads where there can be anywhere from one other kid to seven or eight, possibly more. My knuckles are bloody from the excessive hand washing. Okay, enough of the rant. I'm glad he went to school today, but I still feel like I need to make it up to him.

I hope you're not freezing your toes off...literally! Stay warm, Ki.

  3. LOL Yep we definitely have to learn to be skeptical. Zane DID stay home from school today. It couldn't be helped though. He missed a Christmas party though so it's safe to say it wasn't faked ;) Love this post! Too hilarious!! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. Poor Zane. We're on the same sick track you and me, but you have a much better disposition. Or you're just a nicer person. I bet that's it. I hope he feels better soon and I'm sorry that he missed the party. The kid is so neato, there will be plenty of gatherings to go to for him! I'm glad I could make you laugh. We all could use it. Can't wait for your next Christmas-y post because the Elf one did wonders for my mood!

  4. LOL One-armed pushups?!? Bet he doesn't do that again! :) I can't tell you how many times I've let a certain child (wanna guess which one?!?) stay home from school only to have said child lounge in front of the t.v. all day enjoying the day off! ;)

I'm thinking I need a day off myself...I'm feeling sniffly all of a sudden! LOL

    1. Remember staying home and watching TV when you were home sick as a kid? The worst was when you were too sick to watch TV. Oh man, when I had the glass accident, the power kept going out while I was stuck at home alone. It sucked so bad!

Sniffle away, missy. I think the best thing for a cold is to stay home and bake or go Christmas shopping. Does wonders for your health.

  5. :) Kids are so much fun. I'd like to see your face when he started doing push-ups and then I'd like to see his face when you made him go to school. That's adorable.
    You made me smile, Robyn.
    Happy Friday!

    1. I laugh when I think about it. I only wish I had kept him home from school. I should have taken him to the zoo and made a day of it. You have to do that sometimes.

  6. Oh my goodness! He almost got you good, eh? I'm glad you were able to get him to school anyway - skipping and pretending to be sick is not OK. It's still very funny, though :) I can totally see him pumping his fists in the air. And pushups? LOL how did he imagine that would go over?

Have a wonderful weekend, Robyn :)

    1. He was overcome with joy. He didn't think how I'd take the push ups, plus he's so proud of his push ups. I did good not caving in, but sometimes I feel like I'm stuck in all the mom vs. kid movies I've seen and I run through the right and wrong responses based on what happened next in the movie. In Her Shoes was the movie that played this time. That mom would have driven the kids south to find a warm beach to spend the day at. I went with the opposite. The weekend was great, I hope yours rocked. Here's to a great week!
