When life's kicking your butt, how about a theme song?

I'm making a few changes in my life this year. Oh, I have no idea what these changes will be, but like a storm taking its sweet time to rage and thrash, a shakeup is coming. So it only makes sense I have a theme song. Think Ally McBeal and her dancing baby song (hooked on a feeling). The right song can really hit the spot. So I'm throwing out this challenge, monthly. Pick a theme song and then when you need a boost, or need a specific motivator, maybe a certain song inspires you to tackle your most dreaded chore like balancing your checkbook, choose that one. Maybe you're down and there's a song that always makes you smile, there you go. For January, I'm going for boost, smiles, dancing, fun. I need of that right now.
My pick is Best Day of My Life by American Authors. Gotta warn you, I love this song so much, it might remain my song for the whole year, but I'll pick new ones to add to the playlist.

I posed this challenge to my mom and sister. My sister chose Pompeii by Bastille. My mom went with an old favorite, Mr. Jones by Counting Crows.

Happy New Year, my awesome bloggers. I love you guys. How could I not?

Tiny little update here...I decided to create a youtube channel so I could create a playlist of everyone's picks each month. You can find January's playlist here.

  1. Awesome idea. Happy New Year, BTW. My pikc, recently, is Brave by Sara Bareilles though Monster by Eminem feat. Rihanna is a close second!

    1. I just saw the brave video yesterday and I loved it! I was watching it with my 5 year old. It was a neat moment explaining the lyrics to him. Monster is a great pick too, but Brave might make my list one of these months!! Thanks for stopping by, Greg. Happy New Year!!

    1. Yes, let us have the best year ever!! When I heard Best Day of My Life and started singing and dancing with John I knew this song would be my go-to cheer. I'm not sure if all the songs I choose will be to cheer me up. Maybe one of my characters need a boost of inspiration.

      Happy flying, Athina!!

  3. This is a great idea, Robyn! I had never heard Best Day of My Life because I'm weird and don't listen to the radio. :) But the rest of my family started singing along as it played! (which made me giggle) I'll do a theme song post and hopefully I'll make you giggle too!

I wish you much love and laughter in 2014, girl! And much success - especially with the changes a-coming! :) I'm here for you - whatever you might need! <3 <3

    1. Aww, thank you Brandee! I tell you I've had my car for 8 years and it wasn't until this holiday season that I set my radio stations. That's when I heard Best Day Of My Life and I was so happy listening to it! I demanded Shan put it on my mixed CD (Shan and youtube are my usual sources of new music).

I look forward to your theme song post and I'm sure I'll giggle. I love that your family started singing along!

I wish you much love and laughter too! Of course I do. One of my favorite moments was getting to meet you and your family and have lunch. That was plain neato!

  4. Happy New Year Robyn!!!! Great thoughts for the new year. Is use music to get me relaxed and not thinking but my stories end up storming my Brian and starts acting to it. Think opera.... *sighs* No wonder I haven't been listening to music. Well I'll see in 2014.

    1. Goodness, opera in your head? That is dramatic, Ki! I get kid music swimming around in my brain and that is just not right. You can't write vamp scenes to Sesame Street and Wiggles songs! Do you listen to music when you're in art mode?

  5. Happy New Year, Robyn! I hope all your changes will be positive and easy to implement :)

I love that you're doing a music challenge. I have a go-to-song whenever I'm feeling a little bit down. It's Jason Mraz' Life is Wonderful. The lyrics are so beautiful, and after listening to him sing it, everything makes sense again.

    Big hugs!

    1. Thank you, Lexxie. I hope those things too! You describe your song perfectly. I just listened to it. Peace and calm comes to mind. Thanks for sharing. I bet my boys will like the song too. They go all out singing Jason Mraz songs. I'll have them listen to it today after school...Christmas break is over for them.

  7. I LOVE all of these songs. What great picks. I have to choose between 2 for my first pick so I don't know which one it will be. I think I have it figured out though ;) Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. Have you stopped by Brandee's theme song post? You have to check out hers. I think I'll do a linky thingy for Feb's theme song post and turn this into an actual meme. I love all the songs too! I can just see you walking down sidewalks singing everyone's picks. I hope you're having a great weekend.

  8. Great picks! "Mr. Jones" was one of the songs I played over and over in junior high. Can't believe I was in junior high when that album came out!! My how time flies!

I think my song would be "Take a Walk" by Passion Pit. :) This is an awesome idea! I love music as much as I love *gasp* books! I think the two go together very well - I love seeing author's playlists for their books and learning what they like to listen to when they write.

    1. You love music as much as you love...books?! I loved reading your music festival post, oh and your Rock & Roll Hall of Fame post. Do you have another music trip planned? I just added your awesome pick to the playlist. I'm excited for this meme because I listen to everyone else's picks more than I listen to my own.
